Zeppelins
The first German air attack against Britain took place on the 21st December 1914. This one against Dover was delivered by an aeroplane, but the major form of attack was to be Germany's futuristic and potentially war-winning super-weapon, the zeppelin.
Zeppelins were used to bomb port and cities during WWI. Because of the raids, morale dropped and people feared that a German invasion would follow. Despite their huge size, the zeppelins proved very hard to attack. they slipped over the British coast silently and a a huge height so were impossible to shoot down using conventional terms. Although artillery guns were used against the zeppelins, they had little effect, however they were affected by the wind greatly and were nigh on impossible to steer. In May 1916 planes with incendiary bullets which ignited the helium in the canopies and tuned the silent fortress into a fireball. the most famous zeppelin was the Hindenburg, which crashed and burned. Over the course of the war 1413 civilans were killed by Zeppelins with over 57 attacks.
