Introduction
The Archduke was assassinated by a Serbian terrorist who was protesting about Austrian-Hungarian rule in Bosnia. this caused the Austrian-Hungarian Empire to declare war on Serbia on 28th of July 1914. Germany supported this action but Russia promised to defend Serbia and France backed Russia. Germany declared war on Russia and France and marched through Belgium and into France. Germany attacking a neutral country, Belgium, brought Britain into the war on 4th of August 1914. This website is not about the war but what went on behind the scenes in the home front. The important role the women played in the war and the the way life was during the war for normal citizens.
